Frei Otto's Biography
Frei Paul Otto is a german architecture and a structural engineer. Before becoming a pilot in World War II he studied architecture at Berlin Institue of Technology. During the war, with aviation engineer training and the need of housing, he started to work with tent. Earning a doctorate in tension construction in 1954, he became the world's leading on lightweight tensile and membrane structure and with an advance in structural mathematics and civil engineering.
